Saying Good Bye to Lions Member, Sandy Danks

Remembering Lion Sandy Danks

A Life of Service, Friendship, and Joy

This past weekend, the Osseo Lions Club lost one of its most dedicated and beloved members, Lion Sandy Danks, who courageously battled cancer with grace and strength. Sandy’s presence touched the hearts of all who knew her — through her laughter, her unwavering commitment to service, and her genuine love for people.

Sandy became a member of the Osseo Lions Club in November 2002, bringing with her a passion for helping others that quickly became a cornerstone of our community. Her Lions journey flourished over the years, marked by leadership, friendship, and countless hours of volunteer service.

After retiring from her full-time job in 2018, Sandy remained deeply connected with the Minnesota-based Osseo Lions Club, even as she began the gradual move to make Arizona her permanent home later in life. Her dedication to Lionism never wavered. For years, she traveled back and forth between the two states, continuing to volunteer and serve whenever she was in town.

That same year, in September 2018, Sandy was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship (LCIF) — the highest form of recognition within Lionism.

This award embodies humanitarian ideals that reflect the heart of what it means to be a Lion, and Sandy’s lifetime of service exemplified those very values.

When the Osseo Lions Roar Festival came around, you could always find Sandy right in the middle of the action — helping with setup and tear down, always ready with a smile, or joyfully working the Big Wheel, her absolute favorite station. Her dedication extended well beyond the small city celebration, too. Sandy faithfully served as the bookkeeper for the Gambling Committee, a role she only recently stepped away from as her health declined. Her reliability, precision, and positive attitude made her an irreplaceable part of that team and a trusted friend to so many.

Throughout her years of service, Sandy poured her heart into community events. Whether it was helping to set up the Christmas Village in Boerboom Park, volunteering at Santa’s Lunch, passing out treats at Osseo’s Halloween festivities, serving pancakes at the Palm Sunday Pancake Breakfast, or joining fellow Lions to clean up local roadsides, Sandy believed wholeheartedly in showing up for her community.

Sandy’s leadership path within the Osseo Lions Club was equally inspiring.

She served as President (2015–2016)Vice President (2014–2015), and Second Vice President (2013–2014). As a mentor, she guided new members with warmth and wisdom, helping them find their purpose in service. To her closest friends, she was also a loyal breakfast buddy, a shoulder to cry on, and someone whose laughter could light up any room.

Sandy’s infectious smile, fierce drive, and deep compassion embodied the very essence of Lionism — “We Serve.” Her legacy will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched and in every act of kindness inspired by her example.

More information about memorial services will be shared soon. In the meantime, the Osseo Lions Club honors Lion Sandy’s memory by carrying forward her spirit of service — one act of kindness, one helping hand, one smile at a time.

We miss you, Lion Sandy. Your light continues to shine in every life you touched.
