Selected by the club’s outgoing President, the Osseo Lions Club named Lion Richard Troska as Lion of the Year!
In 2015, the Osseo Lions happily inducted Richard Troska as a member of the Club. In the eight years that he has been a Lion, Troska has not only been actively engaged in the club but has also stepped up, accepting one of the most time-intensive Board roles – Treasurer.
Troska keeps track of all the financials in an organized and fiscally responsible way. He looks for innovative ways to track funds and raise more funds to be given back to the community, and he provides transparent updates of the funds to the Club regularly. On top of that, he volunteers at many of the Club’s events!
Whether it’s the pancake breakfast, steak fry, car show, or Lunch with Santa, he can always be found helping with the ticket sales and keeping good track of the till. And his service doesn’t end there! This year, Troska volunteered to co-chair the Lions Roar – the biggest community event of the year!
Perhaps Troska learned his work ethic from growing up on a large, 2000-acre farm in northwestern Minnesota with 7 siblings – him being the youngest of the 7! He carried on that work ethic after high school, attending NDSU for college, then moving to the Twin Cities in 1992 and dedicating his work ethic to a career in financial services.
Troska is married to his wonderful wife (fellow Lion) Tanya, and they have 3 children: Nikolai – 26, Bugs – 22, and Lillian – 16. Nikolai and Lillian are Lions as well with the club, and Bugs can often be found helping at events and contributing to some of our artwork — she’s been the Coloring Contest artwork creator for our club for the past 4 years!
Both of Troska’s parents were Lions, so he carries on that tradition of volunteerism with his family. It is such a joy to watch their family serve as Lions together!
Outside of volunteering with the Lions, Troska enjoys gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, and watching sports.
